Marcel De Jong was named to the MLS Team of the Week bench today after helping Vancouver Whitecaps FC keep a clean sheet in Saturday’s scoreless draw with LA Galaxy.
The Canadian left back recorded a combined 15 tackles and interceptions, which was the third highest total of any MLS player this season.
De Jong will now join the Canadian senior men’s national team ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifiers vs. Honduras on September 2 and El Salvador on September 6. The ‘Caps, meanwhile, return to BC Place this Saturday to host New York Red Bulls (4 p.m. PT on TSN1 – tickets still available) before heading back on the road for three matches.
