Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson makes five changes to his starting XI from last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against New York Red Bulls – centre backs David Edgar and Kendall Waston, midfielder Christain Bolaños and forward Giles Barnes return from international duty and replace Andrew Jacobson, Tim Parker, Fraser Aird, and Pedro Morales, while forward Masato Kudo is in for Erik Hurtado.
Jordan Smith, MatÃas Laba, and Russell Teibert have started four consecutive matches including the CONCACAF Champions League win over Sporting KC at BC Place on August 23.
This is the first time that this back four have started together – today will be the sixth time Smith, Waston, and Harvey have started together this season.
Today is the seventh MLS start of the season together in central midfield for MatÃas Laba and Russell Teibert. The pair also started together in Vancouver’s 3-0 CCL win over Sporting KC and the 2-1 win over Toronto FC in the Canadian Championship Final.
