VANCOUVER, BC ā€“ Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Friday that centre back Kendall Waston and midfielder Christian BolaƱos have been called up to the Costa Rican national team for an international friendly in Krasnodar, Russia on Sunday, October 9.


Costa Rica will take on Russia, the host nation of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as part of a camp from October 3 to 11 as they prepare for the fifth round of World Cup qualifying in November.


Waston has 12 senior international caps and one goal for Los Ticos, most recently starting in a 1-0 win over Haiti in the fourth round of World Cup qualifying earlier this month.


BolaƱos also featured for Costa Rica at the start of September, starting both against Haiti and also against Panama, where he scored two goals in a 3-1 victory. In total, the San JosĆ© native has made 68 appearances wearing Costa Rica's colours, including the 2006 and 2014 FIFA World Cup tournaments.


The duo will depart following Sundayā€™s MLS match against Seattle Sounders FC at BC Place. Kickoff for Sundayā€™s match will be at 5 p.m. PT, with limited tickets remaining available at ticketmaster.ca/whitecapsfc.
