Aird, 21, played 26 minutes as a second-half substitute and picked up an assist on Canada’s fourth goal (see highlight below), while Bustos – the youngest player on Canada’s roster at 20 years old – played the final 13 minutes. The last time both players appeared for the senior national team was in last October's 1-1 draw with Ghana.
All four of Canada’s goals were scored in the second half.
Toronto FC striker Tosaint Rickets led the way with a brace, while Steven Vitoria and former ‘Caps striker Marcus Haber also found the back of the net. Whitecaps FC Residency grad Simon Thomas earned the clean sheet for Canada, denying a Mauritania penalty in the first half.
This was Canada’s first match under interim head coach Michael Findlay. They return to action on Tuesday against Morocco (12 p.m. PT – live stream TBA).
