Ousted save - preseason Portland - mattocks

VANCOUVER, BC – It’s almost time.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC are now less than a week away from getting things started for real against New York Red Bulls in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals (Leg 1: February 22 at Red Bull Arena, Leg 2: March 2 at BC Place) - tickets on sale now.

The ‘Caps posted a 2W-2L-2D record in the preseason, which included a 10-day trip in Wales followed by the Timbers Preseason Tournament in Portland. It’s been a productive month on many levels, particularly with getting players up to speed from a fitness perspective. It also produced some highlight-reel stuff, and a big time announcement, as you can see below.

BEST NEWS

The 'Caps have found their new Designated Player striker: and his name is Fredy Montero. Check out Montero's highlight package below, if you haven't already. You won't regret it.

BEST GRIT

Talk about putting your body on the line. Cole Seiler, take a bow.

BEST INTRODUCTION

Yordy Reyna's first goal in a Whitecaps FC uniform was easy on the eyes, that's for sure.

BEST ASSIST

I could watch this play all day. Kekuta Manneh put on an absolute clinic against Bristol City's U-23s, including this juggling act that led to Alphonso Davies' second goal.

David Ousted looking like he's in midseason form.

BEST STRIKE

"The Bug" continued his strong preseason on Wednesday night vs. Portland Timbers with this perfectly-placed free kick.

BEST SKILLZ

I've always got time for a back heel. Always.

Matias Laba doing what he does best: getting stuck in.
