VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Tuesday that midfielder/forward Yordy Reyna underwent successful surgery this afternoon for a fifth metatarsal fracture of his left foot.

Reyna suffered the injury during the second half of Vancouver’s preseason finale at Portland Timbers on February 15.

“Yordy was only with the group for a few weeks before his unfortunate injury but quickly showed his attacking quality and dynamic play,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. “We’re happy to hear the surgery went well and anticipate he will be back to full training at the start of summer."

Reyna, 23, joined Whitecaps FC on January 23 after being a member of Austrian Bundesliga side FC Red Bull Salzburg since the summer of 2013. The 5-foot-7 attacking player has earned 17 caps with his native Peru, scoring twice.

The 2017 Whitecaps FC season kicks off with the historic CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series against New York Red Bulls. The first leg is set for this Wednesday, February 22, at Red Bull Arena, and the return leg will take place on Thursday, March 2, at BC Place. MLS regular season action starts on Sunday, March 5, when Whitecaps FC host Philadelphia Union at BC Place. 2017 season tickets are available from $41/month, more information at whitecapsfc.com.
