Whitecaps FC hire new Lower Mainland Academy Centre head coach

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today the appointment of Martin Herdman as head coach for the club’s Lower Mainland Academy Centre programs.


As part of his role, Herdman will lead Academy Centre training at UBC, the Fraser Valley, and the Sea-to-Sky corridor, while supporting academy centre training at SFU.


“We’re very excited to have someone of the quality of Marty join our Academy Centre network,” said Dan Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC director of soccer development. “We look forward to having Marty build strong relationships with the local soccer community, while also supporting strategic and technical initiatives throughout our academy centre programs across Canada.”


Herdman is a UEFA A License head coach. He was most recently a first team coach with Consett AFC in England, while previously coaching in the academy of Hartlepool United FC, New College Durham, Durham Women, and as a football development officer at Newcastle United.
