Each year, Whitecaps FC selects an individual who is making a difference in their community to represent the club in the MLS WORKS Community MVP contest. The contest recognizes individuals who are using soccer to improve the lives of others.
Whitecaps FC are proud to announce Jon Lutz as the club’s 2018 Community MVP!
Jon has won a trip to the MLS All-Star Game in Atlanta on August 2, as well as a $1,000 donation for Canada SCORES Vancouver, a non-profit organization that he established in 2013.
But it gets better — Jon now has the chance to win $25,000 for Canada SCORES Vancouver!
To win, Jon must receive the most votes of the league's 23 Community MVP finalists. Fans can vote online or on Twitter once every 24 hours until Wednesday, August 1 at 11 a.m. PT.

Jon's leadership and passion for giving back resulted in the successful founding of the Vancouver chapter of Canada SCORES in 2013. Canada SCORES’ mission is to inspire urban youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world. After-school programs involving soccer, poetry and community service projects are offered to students, 85% of which live below the poverty line. Canada SCORES serves over 11,000 students, at 245 public and charter schools in 12 major cities in the US and Canada.
Canada SCORES Vancouver has grown to serve 10 schools across two school districts, supporting more than 200 kids between the ages of 9 to 13 years old. Jon remains a dedicated volunteer, who leads by example and inspires everyone around him to see the potential of youth. His steadfast commitment to supporting the expansion of Canada SCORES Vancouver is changing the lives of kids across the country.
