Huitema celebration - U-17 Women's World Cup

For the first time ever, Canada are through to the semifinals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Jordyn Huitema scored her third game-winning goal in as many matches on Sunday, leading Canada to a 1-0 win over Germany in the quarterfinals. Huitema’s Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX teammate, Caitlin Shaw, helped set up the 83rd-minute tally with a fantastic run through midfield and was named the Player of the Match.

A total of four ‘Caps appeared in the match, including Andersen Williams and Ariel Young. Canada is coached by longtime Canadian senior women’s national team defender Rhian Wilkinson, who will begin her role as Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX head coach following the tournament.

Canada will now face Mexico in the U-17 Women’s World Cup semis on Wednesday at 2 p.m. PT.
