Here are Colin’s keys to the match for Friday’s contest against Real Salt Lake.
Reaction to the break
It has been almost a month since the ‘Caps last played an MLS match.
Marc Dos Santos will have taken this time to work through a number of details with his players.
How will they react to the break?
The team will need a positive start from the opening whistle if they are to start the second part of the season with a good result.
Which team will be better in transition
Both teams are good in transition.
For the ‘Caps, it will be important they stay organized, especially when they have the ball as that change in possession can lead to the quick counter attack the other way.
They will need to slow the match down when need be, and be constantly aware of the what’s going on.
On the attacking side, it’s the same thing the other way for the ‘Caps. They have pace up front and they can expose Real Salt Lake if they are alert to the opportunities and use their strengths to their advantage.
Influence of Brian White
The ‘Caps made one addition to the squad over the break, bringing in striker Brian White from the New York Red Bulls.
How big of an influence can he make on what would be his debut? Whether starting or coming off the bench, he has shown a knack for scoring goals in his three seasons with the Red Bulls.
By all accounts he is very coachable, has a great attitude, and is a great team guy. But’s he’s not coming in to make up the numbers.
Can he create some healthy competition?
