Dos Santos was appointed as Whitecaps FC head coach in November 2018, bringing over a decade’s worth of coaching experience at the professional and amateur levels, including stops in Portugal, Canada, Mozambique, Brazil, and the United States.
A UEFA “A” coaching license holder, Dos Santos has compiled a 124W-81L-70D record as a head coach at the professional level prior to his arrival in Vancouver. As a head coach, he has won championships with Trois-Rivieres Attak FC (2007 Open Canada Cup Champions, 2008 Canadian Soccer League Division and Regular Season Champions), Montreal Impact (2009 USL First Division), SE Palmeiras U-15 (2012 Copa do Brasil), Ottawa Fury FC (2015 NASL Fall Season Champions), Swope Park Rangers (2016 USL Western Conference Champions), and San Francisco Deltas (2017 NASL Soccer Bowl Championship). He is a two-time NASL Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2017.
Prior to joining Vancouver, Dos Santos worked in MLS under Bob Bradley during the 2018 season, helping LAFC set a new MLS record for points earned by an expansion team in an inaugural season.
2018: As an assistant coach, Dos Santos helped expansion side LAFC to an MLS record for most points earned in an inaugural season, finishing third in the Western Conference with a 16W-9L-9D record.
San Francisco Deltas
2017: Dos Santos was named the head coach for San Francisco Deltas, then led the club to the NASL Soccer Bowl championship in their inaugural season, earning him his second NASL Coach of the Year award.
Swope Park Rangers
2016: Dos Santos took over the reins at Swope Park Rangers in 2016, leading the Sporting Kansas City USL affiliate to a second-place finish in the USL Championship.
Ottawa Fury FC
2014-15: Dos Santos returned to North America in 2014 when he was named Ottawa Fury FC’s first-ever manager, winning Coach of the Year honours in his second season when he led the NASL club to the Fall Season championship and a runner-up finish in the 2015 NASL Soccer Bowl.
2012-13: Dos Santos spent two years in Brazil, coaching FC Primeira Camisa U-20, SE Palmeiras U-15, and serving as technical director for Desportivo Brasil. As head coach of SE Palmeiras U-15, Dos Santos led the club to their first ever Copa do Brasil title in 2012.
2007-11: Dos Santos joined Montreal Impact in 2007, leading the club’s Canadian Soccer League side Trois-Rivieres Attak FC to the Open Canada Cup championship in his first year, then to the CSL National Division title in the following season. He took on an assistant coach position with the Impact first-team technical staff in 2008, before being named the head coach in the next year. During this time, Dos Santos helped Impact to the Canadian Championship in 2008 as an assistant, then managed the side to the USL First Division title in 2009.
Lac St.Louis Lakers
2006: Dos Santos began his coaching career in his native province with Lac St.Louis Lakers of the Quebec Elite Soccer League in 2006.
Dos Santos began his coaching education in Portugal after coming through the youth academy of SC Beira-Mar and playing in the Portuguese third and fourth tiers. He is a dual citizen of Canada and Portugal. He and his wife, Marie, have three children – Jazmine, Joshua, and Noah. Dos Santos is fluent in four languages – English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish.
