WFC2 draw 1-1 against Toronto FC II as preseason preparations continue

BURNABY, BC – Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) continued their preseason on Sunday with their first friendly match against USL opposition. The ‘Caps took on Canadian rivals Toronto FC II at Simon Fraser University, battling to a 1-1 draw.

Head coach Alan Koch fielded a lineup with seven Canadians included. The lineup also featured four first team players, including first round SuperDraft pick Cole Seiler, and midfielders Erik Hurtado, Nicolas Mezquida, and Marco Bustos.

After a scoreless first half, WFC2 broke the deadlock shortly into the second half. Striker Daniel Haber scored his third goal of preseason, ripping a curling shot from the right side of the box for a 1-0 lead.

As the rain came down the match went back and forth before the visitors found an equalizer on a scramble in the box as Darius Madison volleyed it in minutes before the final whistle.

The end of the match confirmed a 1-1 draw as the ‘Caps moved to 3W-0L-1D in preseason.

The 'Caps open their 2016 USL season on Saturday, March 26 on the road against Orange County Blues FC. The team hosts their home opener on Sunday, April 10 at Thunderbird Stadium against Sacramento Republic FC. Ticket information is available at whitecapsfc.com/wfc2/wfc2tickets.
