Whitecaps FC add four players to short-term agreements ahead of Crystal Palace match

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Tuesday that the club has signed four Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) players to short-term agreements ahead of tonight's friendly vs. English Premier League club Crystal Palace FC (7 p.m. PT at BC Place – tickets still available).

Joining the roster for tonight’s match are centre back Sem de Wit, left back Brett Levis, and forwards Kyle Greig and Daniel Haber. All four players have played a big part in WFC2’s rise to the top of the United Soccer League Western Conference this season.

De Wit, 21, has started 17 of WFC2’s 18 matches in the middle of defence. The Dutch defender, who has earned one USL Team of the Week selection to date, joined the club in February after four seasons of professional soccer in his native Netherlands.

Levis, 23, is in the midst of his second season with WFC2 after impressing with the ‘Caps U-23s and the University of Saskatchewan. The Canadian midfielder-turned-left back, who spent the preseason with the first-team, has three goals and two assists in 15 appearances this season.

Greig, 26, has appeared in 17 of WFC2’s 18 matches, totalling a team-high 10 goals – good enough for third in the USL. This is Greig’s first season with WFC2 and fourth in the USL. The native of Olathe, Kansas wears the captain’s armband for WFC2.

Haber, 24, is second on the team with five goals to go along with three assists. The Toronto, Ontario native, who has five caps with the Canadian senior men’s national team, is the only WFC2 player to have appeared in every match so far this season.

MLS clubs may sign players from their USL affiliate to short-term agreements (up to four-day contracts) for CONCACAF Champions League, Amway Canadian Championship, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and exhibition matches. An MLS club may sign a player to a maximum of four short-term agreements each season (maximum of 16 days).
