Thomas Sanner - versus Sacramento Republic FC

Late-match heroics earns Thomas Sanner nod on USL Team of the Week

Fresh off scoring his first professional goal, Thomas Sanner was named to the USL Team of the Week, the league announced today.

The Princeton product came on with five minutes left in a crucial Western Conference matchup with Sacramento Republic FC on Sunday and proved to be the difference-maker, as his added-time header gave Whitecaps FC 2 the 2-1 victory.

"You have to give credit to Daniel Haber, he laid in a perfect ball and was able to time it just right," Sanner said after the match. "I just wanted to get my head on it across goal. It was an amazing feeling."

With the victory, WFC2 tied LA Galaxy II for the top position in the conference and doubled their lead on fifth-place Sacramento with 11 matches left on the slate.

Whitecaps FC 2 kick off a two-match road swing on Friday, July 29 at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Watch the match live on whitecapsfc2.com. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.
