Whitecaps FC 2 striker Thomas Sanner named USL Player of the Week

VANCOUVER, BC - Whitecaps FC 2 striker Thomas Sanner has been named the USL Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

The 2016 MLS SuperDraft selection put on a show in front of the 'Caps fans in Langley on Sunday, scoring three goals in the last 20 minutes versus Arizona United SC to lead WFC2 to a comeback 3-1 win.

Sanner came on around the hour-mark and provided the 'Caps an instant lift, slotting in the equalizer with only six minutes remaining in regulation time.

Just three minutes later, the Princeton product was in front of the net again, putting in his own rebound for the winner.

Still not done, the 22-year-old rookie sealed the win for the 'Caps on an odd-man break in added time, for his first professional hat trick, and the first in WFC2 history.

Sanner is the second WFC2 player to be awarded the weekly league honour. Ben McKendry was named USL Player of the Week in Week 6.

The 'Caps visit Sacramento Republic FC for a matchup of the top two sides in the Western Conference on Saturday. Watch the match live on whitecapsfc2.com.

MLS season ticket holders can redeem their WFC2 tickets through Account Manager, while single match tickets are available here.
