Melvin's masterful performance in net leads WFC2 to a scoreless road at OKC Energy FC

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Goalkeeper Sean Melvin’s stellar performance led Whitecaps FC 2 to a road point as WFC2 played OKC Energy FC to a scoreless draw at Taft Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Victoria, BC native tallied seven saves on the evening for his second clean sheet of the season. Energy FC keeper Cody Laurendi made two stops of his own to stave off the young ‘Caps on the other end.

It was the Melvin show from the start, as he made four tough saves in the opening 20 minutes. Deklan Wynne, Will Seymore, and Cole Seiler were also prominent on the ‘Caps backline in the opening frame, coming up with key blocks and tackles to keep the match scoreless going into halftime.

Myer Bevan had the best scoring chance for Vancouver late in the first half, benefiting off some fine interplay between Brett Levis and Marco Bustos but Laurendi was there to deny the chance.

OKC defender Coady Andrews had a pair of headers in the second half, first in the 57th minute and then again in the dying moments, but Melvin was a wall in net for WFC2, frustrating the OKC attack with a textbook 90-minute performance.

With the result, Whitecaps FC 2 now have a 5W-14L-8D record, while OKC Energy FC move to 9W-10L-7D.

WFC2 are back home on Sunday, September 17 when they host Orange County SC at UBC Thunderbird Stadium. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. PT. Visit for tickets.
