Expectations from head coach Rich Fagan
Despite this final match having no playoff implications, head coach Rich Fagan says his players are preparing to end the season strong.
“It will be effort and it will be performance. It is our last game of the season against a team that, in our opinion, we should have had a better result against the previous two times. If the effort and performance are there, I bet they get what they deserve.”
The message that Fagan hit home with his players this week was to only worry about how they perform.
“Keep your head down and focus on the things you can control, and that’s your own performance. We’re at the stage in the season where there’s not a lot to play for in terms of playoffs, or even more points, but they can still go out and perform and show everybody what they’re about and what we’ve been about all season, and that’s trying to put a good performance in every week.”
Fagan and his players want nothing more than to reward their fans with a win to end the 2017 USL season.
Orange County SC
The Southern California squad had their playoff hopes dashed at the hands of Reno 1868 FC last Saturday, making Friday's match all about pride. The last time these teams met, it was OCSC who came out on top 2-1 at UBC Thunderbird Stadium.
Their previous two tilts were each decided by a single goal, so a tight defensive affair should be expected under the lights.
OCSC have two players with the opportunity to hit the double-digit mark in goals on the season. Irvin Parra (9), and Jerry van Ewijk (8) will no doubt want a 10 in their goals column to finish out the year. The last time OCSC was in Vancouver, it was van Ewijk who notched the game winner in the 83rd minute.
