Nine BCSPL players selected for Whitecaps FC BC Soccer REX program

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Monday that nine players from the BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) have been selected to join the Girls Elite Regional EXCEL (REX) program in partnership with BC Soccer.

"We're thrilled to welcome a terrific group of young BC players into the program," said Emma Humphries, Whitecaps FC BC REX head coach and girls academy director. "Through our partnership with BC Soccer, we look forward to continuing to push players on to Canada Soccer's youth and senior national teams."

All new players were previously part of the BC Soccer High Performance Program. Sophia Seibel becomes the first player from TOFC to join the REX program.

“BC Soccer is very proud to see so many players move up the player pathway into the REX program. It really shows the close collaboration between the BCSPL, BC Soccer, Whitecaps FC and Canada Soccer,” said Chris Cerroni, BC Soccer director of soccer development. “Having each organization working closely together has really benefited players and its great to see players like Jordyn Huitema move up the pathway and into the Canada Soccer women’s national team.”

The new group of BC players will join 19 returning players, including eight who will be representing Team BC at the upcoming 2017 Canada Games. Burnaby's Emma Regan will be the flag bearer for Team BC at the opening ceremony.
