A talented goalkeeper from Vancouver Island, Sean Melvin joined Whitecaps FC Residency in 2010 after playing for hometown club Victoria United Metro. 
2014: In his second season with the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Melvin made 14 starts in net for the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks, finishing with a 10W-3L-1D record and 0.95 goals-against-average, including five shutouts. In the process, Melvin helped UNCW to their first NCAA tournament win in program history, a 2-0 victory against Bucknell. 2013: As a freshman, Melvin started 10 of his 12 appearances, finishing with a record of 6W-4L-1D and two shutouts.
2013: During his second season with Whitecaps FC U-23, Melvin started four matches, three of which were wins. 2011: In his first PDL season, Melvin made three appearances with Whitecaps FC and recorded a goals-against average of 1.33, as they finished third in the Northwest Division of the PDL’s Western Conference. He registered a clean sheet on his PDL debut, as the ‘Caps won 1-0 at British Columbia rivals Abbotsford Mariners on May 29. 
2012-13: Melvin started 20 matches for Whitecaps FC U-18, finishing with a record of 16W-1L-3D while recording eight clean sheets and finishing with a goals-against average of 0.85. 2011-12: During his second year with Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency, Melvin made seven appearances earning a 4W-2L-1D record while maintaining a goals-against average of 1.85 and finishing with two clean sheets. 2010-11: In his first year with the Residency program, Melvin started five games during the team’s six-match tour of Mexico in Nov. 2010. This included starts versus both the U-18 (Nov. 10) and the U-19/U-20 (Nov. 16) sides of Mexican Primera Division club Estudiantes Tecos, as well as the 4-2 win over the U-18 side of Atlas de Guadalajara on Nov. 14.
Melvin started his soccer career with Gordon Head Soccer Association in his hometown of Victoria, BC, where he was named the club’s Most Outstanding Goalkeeper in 2006. From 2007 to 2010, Melvin was a member of Victoria United Metro. The shot-stopper also represented his home province of British Columbia from the U-13 to U-16 levels.     
Born and raised in Victoria, BC, the goalkeeper’s parents are Ellen and John Melvin, while he as a brother named Ryan. As a student, Melvin attended Frank Hobbs Elementary School, Arbutus Middle School, and Mount Douglas Secondary School (2008 to 2010) in Victoria, BC.   
Melvin is an avid basketball fan and also enjoys following a wide variety of sports. When not concentrating on his soccer career, the keeper likes playing video games and watching television.
