Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency fall 2-1 to Philadelphia Union in USSDA Winter Showcase finale

LAKEWOOD RANCH, FLORIDA - Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency fell 2-1 to Philadelphia Union U-16 on Monday to close out their 2015 USSDA Winter Showcase weekend.

Defender Terrell Smith (Burnaby, BC) opened the scoring for the 'Caps in the 32nd minute, but Philadephia answered with two scores from Justin McMaster and Anthony Fontana within a matter of minutes.

Trevor Schneider (Coquitlam, BC) manned the net for the 'Caps and kept Vancouver in the game with a late save on a chance by McMaster. However, despite Vancouver's relentless efforts, an equalizer would not be in the cards for head coach Adam Day's side.

"Overall, still a pleasing performance today. I felt we were the better team throughout, aside from a 10-minute spell which cost us the game, but we created some good scoring opportunities and we showed our character right up until the end," Day said. "The boys have done extremely well this week and there are lots of positives and things to build on going into the new year."

The U-16 boys go into the winter break with an 11W-2L-1D record and first place in the Northwest Division. The USSDA regular season resumes on January 16.
