Road trip: Residency parents travel to Florida to support Whitecaps FC U-18 & U-16 sides

They say the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

It turns out this is true, even in the Orange State.

As the Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-18 and U-16 Residency teams took to the pitch at the 2015 USSDA Winter Showcase in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, the parents were on hand as well, matching their boys' passion for the sport.

"It was a lot of fun cheering on the boys," U-18 defender Eric de Graaf's dad, Troy, said. "We spent most of the days watching a lot of soccer - the U-18s, the U-16s, even the Nike International friendlies."

Others who came out to support their boys included U-18 goalkeeper Aidan Aylward's mom Ros, U-18 midfielder David Norman's dad David Sr., U-16 defender Chris Guerreiro's dad Luis, and U-16 midfielder Nicolas Apostol's dad Chris.

"It was great getting to spend time with the other parents on the field. A number of us also went out for dinners, getting to know each other better," Troy added. "I'm already looking into doing the Indianapolis trip next year too."

With both the U-18 and U-16 teams entering the winter break atop their respective divisions, the Residency boys - and their moms and dads - may be spending a lot more time together on the road in 2016.
