VANCOUVER, BC Following the 2016 MLS SuperDraft and NWSL College Draft, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are pleased to be providing a chance for future prospects to be scouted into college soccer.
The 2016 Whitecaps FC Showcase presented by Sport Chek is just over two months away (March 25 – 27), and a number of top collegiate coaches and scouts have already confirmed their attendance.
The very best CIS soccer programs will be looking for new recruits, as weIl as schools from the strongest American soccer conferences such as the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 12, and SEC. Among the confirmed attendees are Clemson University, the University of Cincinnati, University of Illinois, University of Iowa, University of Oregon, Oregon State University, University of Washington, and Washington State University.
No less than 26 players from the confirmed schools have been selected in the MLS SuperDraft or NWSL College Draft since 2013, and 14 over the past two years.
This year’s showcase has also attracted some of North America’s most prestigious academic and athletic institutions, including Harvard, Yale, Northwestern, and Rice in the United States, and Queen’s, McGill, and UBC in Canada.
Adding to the competition this year is a new partnership with U.S. Soccer that will bring the best girls teams from Region 1 (New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, and other eastern states).
“We want to build one of North America’s best regarded showcase events that will enhance the soccer experience for youth clubs and their players across BC and Western Canada," said Ryan Clark, Whitecaps FC manager of collegiate transition. "With the response we have received from top tier university programs, it is exciting to see this platform becoming a prime facilitator for local players moving onto the collegiate level."
