Below are the Whitecaps FC Academy Centre Players of the Month for January.

Lower Island Academy Centre

Name: Kian Dunn
Birth Year: 2003
What his coaches say: "Coaching Kian over the past year has been a wonderful experience. The time that he spends on his game away from the field and the focus that he has during sessions shows in his overall growth. He is a player who has been truly underestimated. He has a great deal of growth left in him."

Name: Olivia Andulajevic
Birth Year: 2004
What her coaches say: “As a coaching staff, we have been thrilled with Olivia's progress. Her technical and tactical growth has been immense this year. It is a delight to watch the confidence of young players grow as they mature and develop belief in their abilities."

Upper Island Academy Centre

Name: Gavin Banting
Birth Year: 2002
What his coaches say: "Gavin’s work rate during the last six months during sessions has been phenomenal. His desire to learn and the courage to constantly want the ball has caught the eye of the Upper Island coaches.  Gavin shows creativity in possession and is always looking to play positive whilst involving his teammates."

Name: Ava Alexander
Birth Year: 2003
What her coaches say: “Ava has shown tremendous progression technically and mentally. She is now combining this with a strong desire and physical fitness, which has impressed the Upper Island coaching staff. Ava is a joy to coach and is always looking to improve."

Kamloops Academy Centre

Name: Markus Molett
Birth Year: 2006
What his coaches say: "Markus has been in our Kamloops program from the outset and has a great attitude and strives to be better every day. He listens intently and loves to come to training. We have seen an amazing improvement in his play and feel he will only get better with his great attitude and work ethic.  Markus loves Vancouver Whitecaps FC and hopes to one day play for his childhood team!"

Name: Sydney Ludwig
Birth Year: 2004
What her coaches say: "Sydney has an outstanding work ethic and comes ready to train every day. Her passion and excitement to play exudes in every training session.  Her game gets better every day and with her willingness to learn she will only continue to improve."

Kootenay Academy Centre

Name: Naomi Perkins
Birth Year: 1998
What her coaches say: “Naomi had a fantastic 2015 and has continued that into 2016. Naomi is in her graduate year and has attracted a lot of attention from prospect colleges and universities. She is very comfortable with the ball at her feet, with a great eye for the goal that makes her a very exciting player to watch." 

Name: Ross Haworth
Birth Year: 2004
What his coaches say: “Ross has been with the program for 18 months and is often playing up an age group. His technical side of his game is improving all the time. As a midfielder, he has great energy and isn't afraid to ask questions, volunteer, and learn."

London Academy Centre

Name: Daniel Oshana
Birth Year: 1999
What his coaches say: "Daniel has played a significant part in driving the success of our '99 boys team that is currently playing in the London Men’s Indoor Premier League.  Although Daniel consistently shows a ferocious work rate and a tenacious appetite for winning individual battles, it is the magic he produces with his exemplary technique and abilities to combine with his teammates that are such an amazing pleasure to watch."

Manitoba Academy Centre

Name: Nicholas Steffanson
Birth Year: 2001
What his coaches say: "Nicholas has a high level of focus and determination to improve on a daily basis, he has been performing at a high level this month and was invited to a national team camp taking place in February."

Name: Emerson Kidd
Birth Year: 2001
What her coaches say: "Emerson works extremely hard every day to improve herself as a player. She has been playing at an extremely high level over the last few months, regardless of what position she is asked to play."

Northern Academy Centre

Name: Olivia Wankling 
Birth Year: 2003
What her coaches say: “Olivia has been with the Northern Academy since the beginning. She is a very determined and dedicated young soccer player. Olivia trains with players two years younger as well as players two years older and always brings the same work rate and focus to a training session. She challenges older players to be better and also pulls along younger players to make them better."

Name: Mitchell Crosina
Birth Year: 2004
What his coaches say: “Mitchell is a very exciting young pre-prospect to coach. He is very relaxed when he plays and loves to be on the dribble taking risks. His energy level and excitement about the game is very infectious and he brings the level of the group up every time he is on the field."

Okanagan Academy Centre

Name: Ethan Furlong
Birth Year: 2001
What his coaches say: "Ethan has moved from the Prince George academy to the Okanagan and is now participating in the BCSPL with the Thompson Okanagan Football Club (TOFC). He has an excellent attitude towards training and learning and is demonstrating a great composure when in possession, which is really aiding in his ability to play out from the back. He is very athletic and his technical skills are sound."

Name: Maya Robinson
Birth Year: 2004
What her coaches say: "Maya is demonstrating a fantastic energy for the game and her positive attitude and hunger to improve make her a pleasure to work with. She has good physical ability and solid fundamental skills and we are excited to see how she develops."

Saskatchewan Academy Centre

Name: Seamuse McGettigan
Birth Year: 2002
What his coaches say: “Seamuse has shown consistent improvement over the the years with our academy. Most recently Seamuse led his team to the SISCO Tournament Championship in Saskatoon against the top teams in the province, scoring 10 goals in five games. We are very excited to watch Seamuse develop into the player we believe he can be.”

Name: Sara Johnson
Birth Year: 2000
What her coaches say: Sara came to us this past fall. During that time she has made an immediate impact with our group both in training and in match play. Traditionally a centre back, she shows great composure, compete, and leadership within her group! We look forward to helping Sara meet her goals as a player.”
