18 Whitecaps FC Residency players called up to Canada Soccer camp

Canada Soccer announced on Sunday that 18 Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency players have been called up to a national U-17 evaluation camp led by Paul Stalteri and U-15 identification camp led by Ante Jazic. The dual camp is taking place in Burnaby BC.

Called up to the U-17 camp are goalkeepers Evan Ince and Trevor Schneider, defenders Nikolas White, Ali Zohar, and Gabriel Escobar, midfielders Michael Baldisimo and Alessandro Hojabrpour, and striker Devin O’Hea.

The U-15 camp includes Jacob McCall and Justyn Sandhu, defenders Christian Campagna, Tboy Fayia, and Christopher Lee, midfielders Nicolas Budisa, Logan Chung, Eryk Kobza, Juvraj Kooner, and Arjun Mann.

The U-17 evaluation camp (players born 2000 or later) runs February 6-13 while the U-15 western identification camp (players born in 2001) runs February 8-11.

The U-17 group features 30 players eligible in the new cycle on the road to the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017. Players from across the country, along with a few from abroad, have been called into the evaluation camp. From the list of 30 players, all born in 2000 or 2001, there are nine debutants.

The U-15 group features 25 players born in 2001, with 19 debutants in the program. These players have all been selected from clubs in British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba.

Already from the last two years, Canada Soccer's men's national youth program has featured more than 150 different players born 2000 or later. Outside the 55 players selected, a few players were unavailable because of club commitments.

Along with U-17 coach Paul Stalteri and U-15 coach Ante Jazic, the dual camp at Fortius Centre also features Canada Soccer's Technical Director Tony Fonseca, U-20 coach Rob Gale, and goalkeeper coach Nuno Santos. The full complement of youth coaches allows Fonseca to further build and integrate the men's national youth program from the bottom up.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup is held every two years, with the next edition in India in 2017. For the next edition, only players born 2000 or later are eligible to participate. The CONCACAF Men's Under-17 Championship serves as Canada's qualification route for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. The next edition takes place in 2016 or 2017 (dates to be announced).
