Whitecaps FC Residency wrap-up regular season as Northwest Division champions

Whitecaps FC U-18 and U-16 Residency teams finished off their regular seasons in California this weekend as both teams completed their schedule as Northwest Division champions. Both teams now await their draws for the upcoming 2016 United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) Playoffs in Dallas, Texas.

The U-18s finished with two wins on the weekend and had only one loss in 31 games all season.

On Saturday, the 'Caps came away with a 3-0 win over FC Golden State. Andre Baires scored on a penalty kick after Eric de Graaf was taken down in the box. Marcello Polisi then scored on a nice free kick, and Patrick Izett finished things off with a great volley.

"I'm pleased for the boys," said U-18 head coach Rich Fagan. "It's never easy to play against a team that sets out to defend so deep, but full credit to the players. They stayed patient and were rewarded."

On Sunday against LA Galaxy, the 'Caps finished the regular season in style with a hard-fought 1-0 win.

The match was scoreless for the first 75 minutes until a great passing combination from the 'Caps outside the Galaxy box ended with Polisi crossing to the far post, and Nicolas Apostol firing a rocket one-time volley for the winner. Goalkeeper Aidan Aylward kept the clean sheet in net.

"Extremely proud of the players for their effort & performance, not only today against a top Galaxy side, but their performance all season," said Fagan. "Now we can look forward to three meaningful playoff games, and hopefully more."

The U-16s saw their 10-game winning streak halted in a 1-0 defeat on Saturday against FC Golden State.
"It wasn't a great performance, but it wasn't a bad performance either," said U-16 head coach Adam Day. "It was a fantastic overhead kick goal from them, and it was probably going to be something special to win it on the day."

"A good response from the boys," said Day. "A fitting way to wrap-up a very productive and consistent season.
