Whitecaps FC kick off CONCACAF U-13 Champions League on Saturday

Vancouver Whitecaps FC will begin their first journey in the U-13 CONCACAF Champions League this Saturday, with the tournament happening July 23 to 30 in Mexico City. Like their first team counterparts, the U-13s will face teams from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. This is the youngest age group to compete in a CONCACAF-sanctioned tournament.

The ‘Caps will be led by head coach James Merriman, who has been coaching full-time with the club’s Pre-Residency and academy centres since 2014. He will be assisted by long time ‘Caps Residency coach and now academy centre director Bart Choufour

Whitecaps FC are in Group B alongside Guatemalan club Comunicaciones FC, Costa Rican club LD Alajuelense, and Mexican club Menor Tijuana. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

In the inaugural tournament last year, Canadian representatives Montreal Impact finished in fourth place.
