U-13 CONCACAF Champions League Day 3

Whitecaps FC wrap-up CONCACAF U-13 Champions League with 3-1 win

Vancouver Whitecaps FC played their final group stage match at the 2016 CONCACAF U-13 Champions League on Monday and came away with a 3-1 win against Mexican side Menor Tijuana.

"Today the group showed their potential with a very strong performance over a good side," head coach James Merriman told whitecapsfc.com. "Overall our challenge to the players has been to improve every game. This was our strongest performance, and the group continues to grow."

The 'Caps conceded first when Tijuana scored on a set piece midway through the first half. But the Canadian side responded well and started to generate strong movement as they took control of the match. The Blue and White tied up the match when Eric White scored off a cross, following a great build-up from the team. Before the half ended the 'Caps went ahead. White delivered a cross to Kam Habbibullah who finished with a volley to make it 2-1 at the break.

In the second half, the young 'Caps played their best football of the tournament and created numerous chances. The final goal came from Mass Habbibullah scoring off a rebound with a tidy finish to make it a 3-1 final score.

Following Day 3 matches, the 'Caps and the other participating teams heard from CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani.

With the group stage concluded, the 'Caps will remain for the rest of the week as they play additional matches against their international opponents.
