Whitecaps FC U-15 Residency played their final matches in the Rotterdam Football Cup in the Netherlands on Monday, facing the Irish FA (Northern Ireland) and PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands).
In their opening match, the ‘Caps played a very good first half against the Irish FA but conceded on a tough penalty call. The Blue and White weren’t able to find an equalizer in the second half and fell 1-0.
The second match of the day and final match for the ‘Caps saw them face a Dutch club well respected for their academy in PSV Eindhoven.
Head coach Robert Earnshaw’s side came out with great energy and went up 1-0 in the first half on a goal from Massud Habibullah. However the ‘Caps were unable to convert on several other chances and conceded just before halftime to go into the break level at 1-1. The second half was an even affair before PSV eventually struck a winner for a 2-1 final.
In the end, the ‘Caps faced some very good competition over the course of the tournament, including finalists and runners-up FC Nordsjaelland (Denmark) and third-place Chelsea FC (England), with victories over tournament hosts Excelsior Rotterdam and Next Gen USA. Prior to the tournament the ‘Caps also defeated Dutch side NAC Breda, and played to a 2-2 draw versus Next Gen USA. The tournament was won by Club Brugge (Belgium).
