Whitecaps FC Academy Centres are a network of regional training hubs linked through key staff, curriculum, and standards that provide professional supplemental club training for serious, motivated players. Lower Island Academy Centre

Name: Maya Gibson
Birth Year: 2004
Hometown: Victoria
What her coaches say: "Maya has an excellent aptitude for learning which shows in her progression over the last six months. Her play in possession is more assured and she is more confident in defending situations. Maya is an excellent communicator and is very well respected by her peers.  She is always playing with enthusiasm and positivity. Maya thoroughly deserves this month’s award. Great job!"
Name: Elioth Majewski
Birth Year: 2007
Hometown: Victoria
What his coaches say: “Elioth has an incredible passion for the game. His knowledge of the game is so current and detailed. He is very inquisitive and has a superb attitude and work ethic. Technically, Elioth is confident in one-on-one situations and always wants to be involved in the play. Tactically, he is progressing every week and has responded very well in our regional team program. This accolade is very well deserved as Elioth is a joy to coach."

Upper Island Academy Centre

Name: Brandon Groot
Birth Year: 2002
Hometown: Nanaimo
What his coaches say: "Brandon has progressed athletically and physically a lot in a very short time. This can be a challenging period but Brandon has embraced these new traits and uses them to the utmost advantage. He is aggressive and is playing at a high tempo which raises the standard of his peers. His distribution has a lot more variation and his receiving in tight areas has improved tenfold. Brandon is always inquisitive and constantly looking to improve. Congrats Brandon!"

What her coaches say: “Savannah joined us this spring and has taken no time in settling in. She has great energy levels and a drive that is seeing her excel at a very fast rate. Savannah thrives in our philosophy as she enjoys to dominate possession and is very aware of the transitional moments.  She has been an excellent addition to the program. Keep it up!"

Kamloops Academy Centre

Name: Joshua Jerstad
Birth Year: 2005
What his coaches say: "Joshua has been an excellent addition to our academy. We are very happy to see his progression in this time. His work ethic and attitude have been wonderful and he continues to improve and excel in this high pace setting.  He is very quiet by nature but is a fierce competitor and strives to get better every session. As a coaching staff we are pleased to have him in our academy and watch him grow."

What her coaches say: "Kelly has a fantastic work ethic and wants to continually learn and get better. Because of her attitude and work rate, she continues to strive and accelerate her development.  She never stops working and really enjoys being part of our academy. Our coaching staff really enjoys working with Kelly and we look forward to helping her get to the next level as a goalkeeper."

London Academy Centre

Name: Elesio Melillo

What his coaches say: "Elesio is a young goalkeeper that has great leadership skills. He has a very good work ethic and always leads by example on and off the field. He displays good reflexes as a goalkeeper and has progressed a lot with the ball at his feet. It is a pleasure working with him."

What her coaches say: "Kristianna is all heart. She plays and practices with an intensity and desire that is exciting to watch. She is constantly taking feedback and applying new skills. Keep it up!"

Manitoba Academy Centre

Name: Antoni LaVilla

What his coaches say: "Antoni brings the right attitude to training every session and his attention to detail has allowed him to steadily improve over the year. His hard work has really paid off this last month when he performed very well at the Whitecaps FC Showcase at the beginning of April."

Name: Taylor Sousa

What her coaches say: "Taylor has been very focused in training over the last few months. She always applies herself fully to whatever task is asked of her. Taylor’s training habits are a great example for the younger players."

Okanagan Academy Centre

Name: Sam Calkins

What his coaches say: "Sam has had a very good winter phase in the academy, which culminated in some very strong performances at the adidas Cup. He is growing in confidence and his all-around game is developing very well. We are very pleased to have Sam in the academy."

Name: Charlotte and Lily Schommer
Birth Year: 2007
What her coaches say: "It is hard to separate Charlotte and Lily as they are twin sisters. This is their third phase in the academy after originally joining in the spring phase of 2016. We have witnessed huge improvements in their game over the last few months. Their confidence has certainly grown, and along with it their technical skills. We are pleased to have them in the program and look forward to seeing them develop further."

Sea to Sky Academy Centre

Name: Joey Buchanan
Birth Year: 2007
What his coaches say: “Joey shows up at every session with a fantastic attitude and is a great example to all academy players. He is a willing and eager student. He absorbs all coaching information and executes with the intensity and focus we expect from all our players. We are seeing improvements in Joey's game with each session. Keep up the good work Joey!"

Name: Alexa Brownlie

What her coaches say: "Alexa is a naturally gifted athlete and is a pleasure to have in the academy. It is very rewarding for her coaches to pass on information to Alexa and see it immediately implemented and watch her growth during a session. Her player habits are improving with each session and she is developing into a very balanced player. Great job Alexa!

Vancouver Academy Centre 

Name: Katherine MacDonald
Birth Year: 2008
What her coaches say: "Katherine is a mini Messi. She lights up the field when she is on the ball and has a sharp eye for goal. She has excelled in recent weeks in the Prospects and Academy groups in finding the best spaces on the field to add to her dribbling repertoire. She is always busy on the field and enthusiastic to train. She is certainly an exciting player to watch!"
