Academy Playoffs: U-16s to host Seattle in quarterfinals on July 6

After winning Group C at the Academy Playoffs, Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency have advanced to the quarterfinal stage for the third time. The U-16s will host Seattle Sounders FC Academy this coming Thursday, July 6, 6 p.m. PT at UBC's Ken Woods Field. Fans are invited to come out to watch. Attendance is free, with pay parking available on the streets and at Thunderbird Parkade.

The winner will move on to the final four, taking place from July 14-16 at The StubHub Center in Carson, California.

As Northwest Division rivals, Whitecaps FC and Sounders FC played three times at the U-16 level during the 2016-17 Development Academy season. Seattle won the first match 3-0 at SFU on October 29, but the ‘Caps responded with a pair of 2-0 road victories at Starfire Sports Complex, first on March 11, then in the regular season finale on May 31 to clinch the Northwest Division title.

This is the third time that the U-16s have made it as far as the quarterfinals, and the third time in four years. The U-18s, meanwhile, have twice made it as far as the Development Academy Championship final, in 2012 and 2016.
