Two Manitoba players join Whitecaps FC Residency program

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that two players from Manitoba have been selected to join the full-time boys Residency program, set to move to the new National Soccer Development Centre (NSDC).

Isaac Milambo and Junior Nkana Bassi from Winnipeg will enter into the U-15 Residency team. Both players took part in the 2017 Whitecaps FC Academy Centre Combine with the Manitoba Soccer Provincial Team program. The join returning players Kyle Gomes and Georges Mukumbilwa as Manitobans in the Residency program, while Winnipeg’s Marco Bustos is on the Whitecaps FC MLS squad.

“Year after year, we continue to see talented players join our program from Manitoba,” said Whitecaps FC technical director Craig Dalrymple. “We’ve had a terrific partnership with Manitoba Soccer and we thank them and their member clubs for their continued efforts in developing and progressing young players.”

In 2015, Whitecaps FC and Manitoba Soccer announced a formal player development partnership.

"The Manitoba soccer community is extremely excited to see these two well-deserving players progressing in the pathway to excellence,” added Mike Vitulano, Manitoba Soccer technical director. “Isaac and Junior making the jump to the next level highlights the strength of an aligned pathway from amateur to pro club. We wish them lots of success and hope to see many more follow in their footsteps.”

The U-14 boys team will kick off their season this weekend when they travel to Mexico to take part in the U-13 CONCACAF Champions League for a second straight year. The rest of the teams will begin training in mid-August, while the Development Academy season starts in September for the U-16 and U-18 squads.
