It was a quiet weekend for the ‘Caps Residency teams, with only the U-17s and U-14s in action.
The U-17s took on Development Academy newcomers Albion SC on Saturday in San Diego, coming away with a 3-1 win.
Albion took a 1-0 lead early on, but the ‘Caps responded just two minutes later. Keisean Brooks tied the match after receiving a through-ball from Simon Colyn.
On 50 minutes, Brooks scored his second goal after great individual work at the edge of the box, finishing into the far corner.
The final goal came on 65 minutes, as Matteo de Brienne scored for a 3-1 final.
"Overall I have to say that this was one of the most enjoyable performances in my tenure at the club,” head coach Adam Day told whitecapsfc.com. “Albion were a very well organized, resolute, and determined team, and it wasn't an easy place to go to. They played with great intensity, but all credit to our boys. After being 1-0 down five minute in, we could have collapsed, but we dug deep and in the end produced a quality, assured display that taught Robert [Earnshaw] and I a lot about this group’s character. A great effort from the lads and we fully deserved the win. Now we can go into the Winter Showcase in good spirits.”
The U-14s were also in action, taking on the Fusion FC 2003s on Sunday.
Theo Afework scored the lone goal for the ‘Caps in a 3-1 match.
“The boys brought alive what we have been working on into the match and enjoyed large spells of possession,” noted U-14 head coach Scott Howey. “We were unfortunate not to take a lead into the half given the chances we were creating. There were some really encouraging moments for the group that shows continued progress for these young players.”
