Whitecaps FC name Reynold Stewart associate head coach of Kootenay programs

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday that Reynold Stewart has been appointed as an associate head coach of the Kootenay Academy Centre in Nelson, BC.

Stewart will support current Kootenay associate head coaches Sam Heap and Drissa Bouare, and work under Brett Adams, who is associate head coach of the Academy Centre network across Canada.
Originally from Tsawwassen, Stewart had a successful playing career on the pitch. A local player, he was on the Whitecaps FC 2004 U-14 Super Y League team that made it to the North American Championships in Florida. He went on to play for Whitecaps FC in the USL PDL in 2012 and 2014. During that time, he also played at Douglas College and was twice named Player of the Year. Stewart then transferred to UBC, where he was named Canada West MVP, a First Team CIS All-Canadian, and a league All-Star, all while helping the school win back-to-back national championships.

Most recently, Stewart has been working for over two years gaining coaching experience in a part-time role under Adams at the Kootenay Academy Centre.

“Reynold has achieved a great deal of success in the game and he has worked hard with me over the past two years in developing as a coach,” noted Adams. “With our programs and partnership with Nelson Youth Soccer growing, this is the perfect time and opportunity to bring Reynold into a more active role, allowing us to work more closely with the community, clubs, local players, and partners.”

In his new role as associate head coach, Stewart will support the growth of the West Kootenay Academy, as well as working with Nelson Youth Soccer as part of the partnership with Whitecaps FC.

“As a former player and now coach, I’m very excited to continue to develop my relationship with Whitecaps FC,” added Stewart. “I look forward to the challenge and deepening our club’s relationship with the Kootenay community.”

Whitecaps FC Academy Centres are a network of regional Whitecaps FC training hubs linked through key staff, curriculum, and standards that provide professional supplemental training for serious, motivated players.
