MEXICO CITY, MX – The ‘Caps young development group continued their trip in Mexico on Wednesday with a match against the U-23 side of Liga MX club Cruz Azul at their training facility. An exciting match and encouraging performance ended with the Mexican club earning a narrow 1-0 victory.
The match began at a good tempo. The first half was highlighted by goalkeeper Thomas Hasal making a good diving save on 20 minutes, and midfielder Michael Baldisimo having a free kick pushed away by the Cruz Azul goalkeeper on 38 minutes.
The ‘Caps came out strong in the second half. Substitute Keisean Brooks had a shot saved from in close on 50 minutes, before Cruz Azul found the opening goal with a well struck free kick eight minutes later.
But the ‘Caps continued pressing. On 68 minutes, Simon Colyn fed Jefferson Alade in alone, but the Cruz Azul goalkeeper again made the save. Three minutes later Hasal came up big to deny a long range strike.
The Blue and White were forceful in attack during the final minutes, pressing for the equalizer, but it would not come as the final whistle blew.
Last up for the group is a match versus powerhouse Club America’s U-23 side on Friday.
