MEXICO CITY, MX – The Whitecaps FC development group wrapped up their trip to Mexico with a match versus the U-20 side of Liga MX powerhouse Club America on Friday, falling 2-1 in a tight contest.
The home team opened the scoring through a penalty kick on 24 minutes when the ‘Caps were called for a handball in the box.
The remainder of the half the Canadian side came on strong. After a free kick in the 26th minute, striker Theo Bair hit a low drive that was saved by the goalkeeper. Just before halftime, Bair was sent in alone by Chance Carter and tucked it in to level the match at 1-1. Moments later, midfielder Simon Colyn hit the post to narrowly miss out on taking a lead into halftime.
Fewer chances came for either side in the second half, but Club America found a goal 10 minutes in to the second frame to take the 2-1 result.
