Preview: U-19 and U-17 Academy teams ready for the Winter Showcase

Starting on Thursday, top Development Academy teams throughout North America will descend upon Lakewood Ranch, Florida for the annual Winter Showcase. Both the ‘Caps U-19 and U-17 teams will be taking part.
Here are a few details before the action begins.

U-19s

The U-19s have had their customary strong results in the Development Academy’s Northwest Division, losing only once in their first nine matches of the season heading into the Winter Showcase.
 
A number of players have been brought up into the club’s new development group. 13 players took part in the trip to Mexico to face Toluca, Cruz Azul, and Club America, including:
Left back Gabriel Escobar missed the trip while on duty with the El Salvador U-20 national team. Baldisimo and Hernandez were also recently on international duty as part of Canada’s U-20 men’s national team.
 
The U-19s will face:

U-17s

Leading scorer: Massud Habibullah (7 goals)
 
The U-17s have also lost only once in their first nine league matches of the season, but currently sit in third in the Northwest Division on points per game.
 
They have had a balanced attack in league play between Massud Habibullah (7 goals), Brandon Cambridge (4 goals), Emiliano Brienza (4 goals), and Matteo de Brienne (3 goals).
 
On the backline, captain Nathan Demian leads by example, while onlookers are also likely to take note of left back Brian Ananias, who continues to develop his game during his second season in the Academy.
