Academy Report: 'Caps continue winning at the Winter Showcase

LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL – Whitecaps FC U-17 Academy earned their second straight win at the Winter Showcase with a 1-0 victory over MLS academy rivals New England Revolution on a windy Saturday.

After a slow start, the ‘Caps came alive and found opportunities to break the Revs down. In the 65th minute a long ball over the top found Matteo De Brienne, who was taken down in the box. Massud Habibullah calmly finished into the bottom corner for the winning goal, which was his third in two games. Emil Gazdov had the clean sheet in net.

“The boys did well to adapt to the conditions, along with their second match in 24 hours,” noted assistant coach Dalibor Plavsic. “We weathered New England’s momentum and ultimately had the better chances. It was a total team performance, which makes our coaching staff proud as we head into our final match.”

The U-17s will play their last match of the Winter Showcase versus New York City FC on Monday. The U-19s will play their last match on Sunday against Montreal Impact.
