Davies, Huitema, and Wilkinson nominated for Concacaf Awards

Concacaf announced on Monday the nominees and the opening of fan voting for the annual Concacaf Awards, including several Whitecaps FC representatives.

Among the inclusions are Rhian Wilkinson, the new head coach of the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Super REX program in partnership with BC Soccer. Wilkinson led Canada’s U-17 women’s national to their best ever finish, fourth place at the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Also nominated are Jordyn Huitema for the Female Best XI at the forward position, and Alphonso Davies is nominated among the Male Best XI forwards.

The Concacaf Awards, which began in 2013 and will be presented for the sixth time, recognize players, coaches, and referees at all age levels, who have excelled in Concacaf and FIFA-sanctioned tournaments involving the Confederation’s national teams and clubs.

Fans can vote at Concacaf.com/awards. Voting will close on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 8:59 p.m. PT.

Voting for the Concacaf Awards is a thorough process involving key stakeholders from the Confederation. The winners of each category shall be selected by the following 4 groups: 
  • National team head coaches from Concacaf’s 41 member associations
  • National team captains from Concacaf’s 41 member associations
  • Experts from media houses selected by Concacaf
  • Fans who will be able to vote by visiting the fan voting page on Concacaf.com
Each Voting Group shall have the same electoral weight (25% each) in the final result irrespective of the actual number of voters in those groups. All voters should base their judgement on performances by the nominees from January 1, 2018 to December 10, 2018. 
Final votes in each of the categories will be tallied and the winners will be announced January 2019, via Concacaf.com
