Academy Report: 'Caps play first match in Spain against CD Leganes

Whitecaps FC Academy played the first match of their trip to Madrid, Spain on Thursday as they faced the 2003 academy side of La Liga club CD Leganes.

The Spanish team took the lead in the 30th minute, only for the ‘Caps to answer right back on a goal from Eric White before halftime, assisted by Dale Reas-Do, ensuring the teams went into the break level at 1-1.

Leganes scored the first two goals of the second half to take a 3-1 advantage. However Brandon Tam – on the trip from Whitecaps London – slotted home a far post cross from Frixos Petsas to bring the match back to 3-2.

The ‘Caps pressed and looked lively the remainder of the match, and were unlucky not to find an equalizer. Late on, the Leganes goalkeeper made a good save to preserve the match, leading to a counterattack and a fourth and final goal for the home side, resulting in a 4-2 final score.
