Academy Report: 'Caps defeat Real Madrid Academy 1-0 in Spain

MADRID, SPAIN – Whitecaps FC Academy defeated Real Madrid CF Academy 1-0 in their final match of their trip to Spain on Tuesday.

The match took place on a cool evening at Real Madrid City – the official training facility for all teams from Los Blancos, academy to first team. The home side were coached by Real Madrid legend Raul, while 2010 FIFA World Cup winner Xabi Alonso took in the match from the stands.

The action began at a fast pace as Real looked to put their stamp on the game early on. However the ‘Caps were resilient, holding back their Spanish counterparts as the score was 0-0 going into halftime.

After a few halftime adjustments, the young ‘Caps grew into the match and began to disrupt the rhythm of their opponents, regaining the ball in higher areas of the pitch.

In the 64th minute, midfielder Kam Habibullah was able to drive into the penalty area as he was chopped down, earning a penalty kick. Habibullah calmly stepped up to bury it, converting the winning goal in a 1-0 victory.
