Academy Report: U-17s conclude phenomenal Generation adidas Cup with 5-1 win over Columbus

FRISCO, TX – Whitecaps FC U-17 academy boys made one final statement at the 2019 Generation adidas Cup, wrapping up the tournament with a 5-1 win over MLS academy rivals Columbus Crew SC.

After Crew SC opened the scoring five minutes in, the 'Caps took over. First, it was 15-year-old Kam Habibullah scoring his fourth of the tournament, assisted by Amir Batyrev.

Brother Massud Habibullah and midifelder Emiliano Brienza each added two more, bringing their GA Cup totals to four each as well.

The result was redemption of sorts for the 'Caps, who finished Group C play winning all five of their matches with zero goals conceded, but were pipped for the top spot at the last minute by Crew SC on goals for.

The 'Caps end the GA Cup by winning six of their seven matches, with 19 goals scored and only two conceded.

The U-17s are back in Development Academy league action on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 at the National Soccer Development Centre (NSDC).

A number of players will also likely now look ahead to national team call-ups at next month's Concacaf U-17 Championship.
