Sargeant named head coach of Pre-Girls Elite team, as part of BMO Academy System

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday that Chris Sargeant has been named head coach of the newly formed Pre-Girls Elite team, as part of the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System. Sargeant will be assisted by REX staff coach and Girls Academy Centre head coach Maia Vink.

“We’re very pleased to have someone of Chris’ experience leading this new group with Maia,” said Dan Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC director of soccer development. “The experience that Chris and Maia have working in our REX program will provide a seamless transition for young players in their development path at the club.”

Sargeant has worked as a coach in the Girls Elite REX program since 2015, as well as acting as assistant technical director with Mountain United FC. Sargeant was previously head coach of the Quest University women’s soccer team, and assistant coach with the Simon Fraser University women’s team.

In addition to Sargeant and Vink's head coaching and Girls Elite REX responsibilities, both will continue to lead the BMO Mainland Girls academy centre at SFU and this summer’s Girls Prospects camps. Registration for the three Girls Elite Prospects camps this summer and the opportunity to be evaluated by Sargeant and Vink is available here.
