BMO Academy Report: 'Caps fall 2-1 in U-13 Concacaf Champions League Shield Final

SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA – The Whitecaps FC Pre-Academy boys fell 2-1 in a last-second heartbreaker against home side LD Alajauelense in the Shield Final of the 2019 Concacaf U-13 Champions League on Saturday.

The 'Caps opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on a goal from Dominic Di Paola

But the Costa Rican side came back in the final 10 minutes of the 60-minute match with goals from Claudio Montero in the 52nd minute and a last-minute score from Ariel Gonzalez in the second minute of stoppage time to win it for Alajuelense.

"This was an amazing experience with lots of learning," said head coach Bart Choufour. "Our boys were true ambassadors of the club with good feedback from all people we encountered on and off the field. They handled themselves like young pros and showed great improvement with every game. Their hard work on and off the field has been paying off."

The 'Caps will now return to Vancouver to continue training as they get into their 2019-2020 season.
