Whitecaps FC announce 2019-20 MLS Academy rosters

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Monday the 2019-20 rosters for the club’s MLS Academy teams, as part of the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System.

The ‘Caps MLS roster currently includes seven players from the Whitecaps FC Academy, while more than 60 academy graduates have moved onto professional soccer careers.

Combined, 28 new players are entering the academy. 42 players call British Columbia home, making up 74 per cent of the total in the program.

Eight new players come to the academy outside of British Columbia, including the first players from the Whitecaps FC BMO Lethbridge Academy Centre and the Whitecaps FC BMO Prince Edward Island Academy Centre.

COACHING STAFF

Ricky King (U-19), Rich Fagan (U-17), and Scott Howey (U-15) return as head coaches for each academy team. They will be assisted by Mark Eckerle (U-19), Dan Fairhurst (U-17), and Dante Marconato (U-15).

The academy is overseen by Craig Dalrymple, Whitecaps FC player development & academy recruitment director.

GENERATION ADIDAS CUP

The U-17s and U-15s will once again take part in Major League Soccer’s Generation adidas Cup, challenging themselves against top academy competition from both MLS and around the world.

The first round of GA Cup regional qualifiers will be hosted by Colorado Rapids, taking place October 11 to 14 at Dick’s Sporting Good Park.

DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY

The ‘Caps U-17 and U-15 teams will begin their seasons on the road at Real Colorado on Saturday, September 14, and at Colorado Rapids on Sunday September 15. The U-19s will begin on Saturday, September 21 at home to FC Golden State at the National Soccer Development Centre.

The DA has undergone a change in format and playoff qualification, aiming to create a more competitive structure.
