BMO Academy Report: 'Caps academy centre teams benefit from challenge at GA Cup

Two teams composed of players selected from regional Whitecaps FC BMO Academy Centres – part of the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System – took on a series of MLS counterparts as part of the affiliate division in the U-12 Generation adidas Cup in Atlanta, Georgia. Both groups were overseen by Pre-MLS academy head coach Bart Choufour.

Whitecaps FC Academy Centre Team #1

The first team, coached by Pre-MLS Academy assistant coach Paul Thompson, faced stiff challenges from Real Salt Lake-Arizona, New York Red Bulls, and Michigan Wolves (Columbus Crew SC affiliate) in the group stage. They then fell to Toronto FC in the first round of the knockout stages before ending with wins over Minnesota United FC and Real Salt Lake-Southern Arizona.

Whitecaps FC Academy Centre Team #2

The second group, coach by Whitecaps FC Alberta head coach Ewan Fisher, made a run all the way to the shield final. On their way there they faced Minnesota United FC, Houston Dynamo, and D.C. United in the group stage. They then defeated Boise Timbers in the quarterfinals and New York Red Bulls in the semifinals before falling to Toronto FC in the final.
