HOUSTON, TX – Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-17 and U-15 MLS Academy teams, part of the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System, completed qualifying for the 2020 Generation adidas Cup this past weekend in Houston, Texas.
The U-17s finished third in Group A and will play in the second division at the finals in Frisco, Texas, facing Mexican clubs such as Atlas FC, Club Tijuana, and Monterrey. The U-15s put in a good showing to also finish third in their group, with only the group winners advancing to the finals in their age group.
Friday vs. Houston Dynamo
The U-17s battled valiantly in their opening match against the hosts, but ultimately fell 1-0.
The U-15s came out strong with a 3-1 win versus the hosts. Michael Hennessy scored the first before Max Comsia netted the last two goals. Koji Poon had two assists, and Kallum Korr set up the final goal.
Saturday vs. Portland Timbers
Another hard-fought match for the U-17s came up just short as they dropped a 3-2 match against rivals Portland Timbers. Joshué Ndakala scored on an assist from Rohin Kapila, and Kam Habibullah scored the second for the ‘Caps.
The U-15s kept rolling with a 3-0 victory against their rivals. Michael Hennessy set up Joel Demian for the first goal, Kallum Korr scored the second, and Max Comsia found Hennessy for the third goal.
