Vancouver Prospects Academy

 


Whitecaps FC Vancouver Prospects Academy offers additional sessions to players already registered in the Whitecaps FC Vancouver Skills AcademyThe Prospects Academy is supplemental club training for motivated boys and girls. Participation is by invite only with selections made from players participating in the Skills Academy. 

The Prospects boys' sessions are delivered by director and head coach Academy Centres, Bart Choufour. The Prospects girls' sessions are overseen by Whitecaps FC girls director and head coach, Emma Humphries, with assistant coach, Natalie Lawrence.

The program is for BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) pre intake ages U9 (2008) to U12 (2005) and is designed to help prepare players for possible participation with one of the BCSPL teams. Please note that players selected for Whitecaps FC Girls Elite and Residency programs must come from one of our partner league BCSPL clubs and not directly from our academy. 

The Vancouver Prospects Academy follows the Vancouver Skills Academy calendar of a ten month program from September through June with two phases: fall/winter and spring.  


Highlights

  • Participants follow an official Whitecaps FC training curriculum
  • Incorporates challenging technique training, speed, agility and quickness, and game play
  • All sessions developed and delivered by Whitecaps FC Head Coaching staff
  • Connected to the Whitecaps FC Academy Centre network to provide greater exposure and opportunities​

Notifications

  • Parents are encouraged to check their e-mail prior to leaving for training; we will notify all participants of changes to training schedule via e-mail 
  • In the event that weather conditions do not allow for training at SFU, we will do our best to re-schedule the missed session

  • Phase 2 U9 (2008) to U11 (2006)
  • By invitation only. Players must already be registered in the Vancouver Skills Academy in order to be selected and participate in the Prospects Academy.
  • Prospects operates in two Phases;

PHASE 1 - Fall/Winter 2016/2017
September to March - 20 sessions

Boys – U9 (2008) to U12 (2005)

  • Choice of Wednesdays or Thursdays, both 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
  • Fall – September 28 through December 15, 2016
    • ​No session October 12/13 - Thanksgiving
  • Winter – January 11 through March 9, 2017

Girls – U8 (2009) to U12 (2005)

  • Mondays and/or Thursdays, both 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
  • Fall – September 26 through December 12, 2016
    • ​No session October 10 - Thanksgiving
    • No session December 5th - Field Closure
  • Winter – January 9 through March 6, 2017

PHASE 2 - Spring 2017
April to July

Boys – U9 (2008) to U11 (2006) - 26 Sessions

  • Wednesdays and Thursdays both 5:30pm – 7:00pm.
    • ​April: 5, 6, 12, 13, 26, 27
    • May: 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 31
    • June: 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 28, 29
    • July 5, 6, 12, 13, 16*
      • ​*Sunday Session on July 16 - 10:00 to 11:30 am
  • Tournaments
    • ​Baker Blast, June 23 - 25
    • Crossfire Challenge, July 20 - 24
      • ​Please note - not all players selected into prospects will be guaranteed to go to tournaments. 
  • Pre-Requisite - all prospects players need to be registered for Sunday Spring Skills Academy sessions. 

Girls – U9 (2008) to U11 (2006) - 22 Sessions

  • Monday and Thursdays, both 5:30pm – 7:00pm.
    • ​April: 3, 6, 10, 13, 20, 24, 27
    • May: 1, 4, 8, 11, 15, 18, 25, 29
    • June: 1, 5, 8, 12, 15, 19, 22
  • Tournaments: 
    • ​Skagit Firecracker, June 16 - 18
    • Baker Blast, June 23 - 25
      • ​Please note - not all players selected into prospects will be guaranteed to go to tournaments. 
  • Pre-Requisite - all prospects players need to be registered for Saturday Spring Skills Academy sessions. 

Additional highlights. Both the Boys and Girls groups will:

  • Go to an MLS game at BC Place with all players and staff
  • Watch First Team training + mingle after with the First Team players. 

Location

All training sessions will take place at the Whitecaps FC Regional Training Centre located at Simon Fraser University (Field #4) in Burnaby. Click here for a printable map: Campus Map and Parking

Parking - All parents must park at the West Mall Visitors Parkade. This is paid parking but all Whitecaps Academy attendees will receive a flat rate of $3.50. 
There is also a 15 minute grace period in this parkade for drop off and pick up. Cars are not permitted to stop or park along the roadway (fire lane) or service vehicle stalls next to field #4. SFU Campus Security will ticket/tow any parked cars.


Registration and Payment

Selected players will receive an invite by email to register for the program which will be based on the following:

Phase 1: 

Boys

$525 + GST - 20 sessions on either Wednesdays OR Thursdays.

Girls 

Option 1 - $525 + GST - 20 sessions on either Mondays OR Thursdays. 
Option 2 - $1025 + GST - 40 session on Mondays AND Thursdays

Phase 2: 

Boys: 

$645 + GST - 26 sessions on Wednesdays AND Thursdays. 

Girls: 

$545 + GST - 22 sessions on Mondays AND Thursdays

  • All selected Prospects Academy players must be registered in the Spring Skills Academy (Saturday Girls, Boys Sunday).
  • Registration fees for phase 2 include:
    • Two additional training sessions per week
    • Ticket to an MLS match at BC Place.
    • Watch first team training session and mingle after with first team players. 
    • Players who are specifically selected to tournament teams will receive a seperate payment link to pay for registration fee's for the tournaments. 
      • Costs of travel and accomodation will be at the responsibility of parents to take care of during tournament trips.
