HOME FINALE: After being eliminated from MLS NEXT Pro playoff contention last weekend, Whitecaps FC 2 will look to wrap up their final two matches of the 2023 season in style. First up is their final home match against playoff-chasing San Jose Earthquakes II, as the young 'Caps will be looking to spoil the side's playoff hopes with a win at UBC's Dhillon Field. In the previous meeting between the two teams in May, WFC2 came away with a 1-0 road win at PayPal Park thanks to Matteo Campagna's first professional goal.
GIVING THE CHANCE: One brightspot for WFC2 in 2023 was the continuing trend of short-term call-ups to the first team following up from the 2022 season. Captain Giovanni Aguilar signed three short-term agreements, midfielder Vasco Fry signed a pair of short-term agreements, and forward Levonte Johnson signed four short-term agreements, with the Brampton, Ontario native eventually signing an MLS contract with the first team. In addition, midfielder Jay Herdman and defender Finn Linder played with New Zealand at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The pair helped their country reach the Round of 16 of the tournament.
