VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday that the club has signed Whitecaps FC BMO Academy product Sam Rogers to a Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) contract through the 2027-28 MLS NEXT Pro season.

- 16 starts with WFC2 in MLS NEXT Pro since 2025
- Represented Canada at U-16 and U-17 national team levels
“Sam has been in our academy for several years and has taken the step up to MLS NEXT Pro this season,” said Quinn Thompson, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “He has also gained a lot of experience this year that will benefit him in the future. We look forward to helping Sam reach the next level in his development as he continues to grow within our second team setup.”
Rogers, 17, first joined the Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy in 2022 following time with the Whitecaps FC Pre-Academy.
The academy product signs his first professional contract after making 16 starts with WFC2 as an academy player since 2025. Prior to joining the ‘Caps, the goalkeeper also spent time at Coastal FC in the BC Soccer Premier League and South Delta United Soccer Club.
“I’m really excited to have signed my first professional contract with Whitecaps FC,” added Rogers. “Being a hometown kid and coming from the club’s youth system, it’s a really special moment for me. I’ll keep fighting for this club on and off the pitch. I just want to say a special thank you to my family for always supporting me. That includes my aunts, uncles, and grandparents. They’re always there for me and I’m so thankful for that. I’m also thankful for the coaches and teammates I’ve had along the way for pushing me to succeed every day in training.”
At the international level, Rogers has represented Canada at the U-16 and U-17 national team levels. Rogers was also called up to represent Canada at the 4 Nations Tournament.
