ARLINGTON, TX – Whitecaps FC 2 suffered their second defeat of the season on Saturday as they dropped a 1-0 result on the road against fellow Western Conference side North Texas SC at Choctaw Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Right off the get-go WFC2 goalkeeper Ben Alexander was forced into a big save in the 2nd minute, as he denied North Texas SC forward José Mulato from close range.

The young ‘Caps best chance of the first half would come in the 28th minute as Emiliano Brienza chipped a ball over the North Texas defense right into the path of Simon Becher, who saw his volleyed effort go off the post.

Alexander would once again get called upon in the 33rd minute to keep the scores level, this time denying North Texas SC winger André Costa at his near post.

However, North Texas SC would find the breakthrough two minutes later through a long range strike from Mulato to give the home side the 1-0 lead.

WFC2 had a chance to tie the match up ahead of the halftime interval as the ball fell right into the path of defender Cristian Campagna off a set piece, but the captain couldn’t direct his sliding attempt on target.

In the second half, Becher once again came close to grabbing a goal but his header off a set piece went straight into the hands of North Texas SC goalkeeper Felipe.

Two minutes later, Alexander came up with his third big save of the match as he denied Mulato from close range.

The young 'Caps would get one last chance to equalize in stoppage time as substitute Joe Hanson put his header just over the bar after a corner from Vasco Fry.

Up next for WFC2 is a return to Swangard Stadium as they host Minnesota United FC 2 next Saturday, May 21 in Burnaby, BC, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. PT. You can catch the match live on mlsnextpro.com.
